Books vs. eBooks (for me, Books vs. Kindle)

Beyond trivial consumer choices that might determine which ebook reader to buy, I have four concerns about eBooks in general:

  • I can’t write in the pages or mark the pages visually in a way I can see by just glancing at the book (I like PagePoints); and
  • I can’t share the books as easily as I can share a paper book. The reverse is that I should always be able to get a lent book back if it’s electronic, but that’s not an equal trade in my view; and
  • The books could be modified without my being notified or without my advance authorization; and
  • The books could be pulled away from me without my being notified or without my advance authorization. This has happened already.
