“Daddy, I met this boy…”

Leyna: “Daddy, I met this boy at school. He’s really nice. It’s like we’re boyfriend and girlfriend.”

Me: “You’re too young for that, honey.”

“I know.”

“What’s his name?”

“I don’t remember.”

Whew.

Neato Robotics XV-11 XV-12 XV-15 Vacuum

Woot, you kill me. Ordered this XV-12 robotic vacuum cleaner today for $299. $399 on Amazon.com and tons of good review with few bad ones. This thing is definitely not a Roomba. It reportedly doesn’t just poke around bouncing off of stuff. Plus, you know, lasers.

Model name ambiguity: The XV-11, XV-12 and XV-15 are the same device.

10 February 2012 update: I let it vacuum the house two nights ago. I’m impressed.

Books vs. eBooks (for me, Books vs. Kindle)

Beyond trivial consumer choices that might determine which ebook reader to buy, I have four concerns about eBooks in general:

  • I can’t write in the pages or mark the pages visually in a way I can see by just glancing at the book (I like PagePoints); and
  • I can’t share the books as easily as I can share a paper book. The reverse is that I should always be able to get a lent book back if it’s electronic, but that’s not an equal trade in my view; and
  • The books could be modified without my being notified or without my advance authorization; and
  • The books could be pulled away from me without my being notified or without my advance authorization. This has happened already.
