Safari Image Text Search!

Working in Jira on my M1 Mac mini just now, searching in the page (issue) I was on using Safari, Safari searched for text in an image. I realize Apple’s been adding this to Macs and iPhones and iPads for a while now, but this is the first time I’ve personally found image text recognition useful. Awesome!

My Mac mini is running macOS Monterey version 12.4.

Hello, StopTheMadness.

A few minutes ago, I felt look looking for Mac productivity software. My first thought was MacWorld’s utility reviews. They’re the best. So I went to MacWorld.com. I found this review of StopTheMadness. Five stars and MacWorld Editors’ Choice? I’m in.

I went to the App Store and paid my ten bucks. That’s all the information I need —I’m in. I don’t expect to use this a lot, but it is right up my alley.

What drives me the most crazy is sites that disable saving a photo to my computer. We will see if this helps with that occasional but infuriating problem, but I did not see “enable image download” on its list of checkboxes.

Note: I run into the problem of not being able to save an image from an article more on Apple News than on websites. I’d like a solution for that the most.

Hello Again, Pi-Hole.

Some weeks back, I decided to set Pi-Hole (the DNS-based black hole for ads and other creepy requests) again on my home network. I already had an Ubuntu VM available. It only took minutes to get it going on that. I previously ran it on a Raspberry Pi Zero.

My Eero mesh network uses the Pi-Hole for DNS and Pi-Hole used OpenDNS for its DNS. About a week ago, my Ubuntu VM changed its static IP address unexpectedly and, in a hurry, I just restored Google DNS settings to it because I knew them (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4). But I’ll probably go back to OpenDNS, because no one on Earth should trust Google.

Pi-Hole is a wonderful product.
